Why membrane treatments?
This membrane consists of 2 layers, the amnion layer, which is rich in collagen and the chorion layer, which is a thick collagen dense layer. The amniotic membrane also contains biologically active cells, regenerative molecules and multiple types of growth factors.
The general expectation is that a wound should reduce in size by 50% after 4 weeks of standard treatment. The longer a chronic wound goes untreated , the greater risk of infection, amputation and other infections.
Adults with diabetes undergo amputation due to non-healing wounds every year
Each year 80,000 adults with diabetes undergo amputation of the leg or foot due to a chronic wound, 80% of cases started with an ulcer. Treating these ulcers early with the most appropriate wound healing management is key to avoiding amputation. Because of investment in wound care and research, our patients at ProMed tend to heal much quicker than the general wound treatments.
